Nutrition for Healthier Dreads
It has taken me decades to realize how key this is (and not just for dreadlocks, but for hair in general). What you put in your mouth effects what happens on your head. Simple as that. Only recently have I started to really focus on feeding my dreadlocks from the inside out, and I have to say that I’m seeing real results! So exciting. I never planned on expounding on this subject, but I can’t leave it off the site. The benefits are too many: healthier hair, healthier skin, and a healthier body!
Key Foods for Hair Nutrition
-Dark Green Vegetables: such as spinach and broccoli.
-Other vegetables: green peppers
-Other fruits: strawberries, citrus fruits (for the Vitamin C), blueberries
-Omega-3 Fatty Acids
-Healthy Oils: Olive oil, coconut oil (yes, you can ingest coconut oil. 1-2 spoonfuls a day).
Consider Purchasing a High Quality Blender or Juicer
It’s completely up to you as far as how you consume your healthy fruits, vegetables, nuts, and oils, as long as you are getting the right amount each day. However, I have found it to be extremely difficult to get them all during my extremely busy day, and then I’m not only nutrient deficient…but also feeling guilty. Ugh. My solution to this has been to purchase a high quality processor, so that what I now do is a good portion of these superfoods together, pulverize it, and then drinking it on the spot! Many people have their favorite brand of juicer/blender/processor, and for me, the Nutri Bullet has been very effective. The thing is a monster. It completely pulverizes whatever I put in there, including nuts and carrots when you leave them mixing long enough.
I have used ordinary blenders and juicers for years, but have found this to be FAR more effective, with quicker results). You can find 475 + reviews on Amazon if you want to see what people are saying. I first heard about it on an infomercial — which turned me off initially, because I’m not a fan of infomercials. However, after a couple months of having dull hair and less than great skin, I finally decided to test it out, and made a trip to Bed & Bath Beyond. I’m happy to say I’ve never regretted it.
As an aside, I’ve heard several negative reviews about Nutri Bullet’s customer service, which may need improvement. However, I’ve never had to interact with them personally because mine works fine. It just does what it says it will do, and that’s all I personally wanted.
Patience is Key
However you choose to get your nutrients, don’t expect to see instant results, folks. It takes time for your body to adjust. Be patient.
